How does it work?

It is a reloadable sticker that you can put on your vehicle’s front windshield and is linked to a prepaid account. All toll booths at both state and national highways will read the sensors attached to the FASTag stick and money will be automatically deducted.

You can pick up a FASTag sticker from banks, and counters present at toll booths. You can also get it from Paytm. 

Is it compulsory? 

Yes. The government has announced that it is compulsory for all vehicles to have the FASTag sticker from December 1st, 2019.
